Happy Valentines Day!
A customer came into my store today, with his red, black & white “jammer” swimsuit in the original plastic wrapper. I asked, “The swimsuit didn’t fit?” (He hadn’t tried it on since it was the second swimsuit he had bought.) “No,” he said, and proceeded to hold out the suit to show me. “My wife said it wouldn’t fit.” I had to laugh as he displayed the suit that was the same colors as the jammers in the pile. His grin widened despite this potentially embarrassing discovery. I asked, “Were you in the men’s locker room when you pulled that out?” He said, “No…I was at home and took it out of the bag to show my wife my new suit.” They were both shocked and laughed as a women’s skimpy one-piece swimsuit dangled from his fingertips! …He got a different suit.
Some great presentations coming up…
Have you been eating healthy lately? Brush up on your nutrition needs with Hillery Daily and Renee Goddard of the Hamilton Natural Health Clinic on Thursday, Feb. 21st at 6:00. They will talk about “Nutrition Support for Athletes” to avoid injury and increase energy. Wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served and there will be sales on clothing too. Come and visit at another fun and friendly community gathering.
Doug Martin of Hamilton Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab Center will do a presentation on “Athletic Injuries, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention”….Tuesday, March 4th at 6:30.
Goings On…
Our Saturday runs have all been in perfect weather. We have had some great runs on the East and West sides—and getting it done early and with friends feels great. Steve Gideon, Matt Guzik, Alicia Arrigoni, and Josh Alexander ran 20 miles last Saturday. They are all gearing up for various half or full marathons. Steve is training for the Snow Joke, Matt for a marathon in New Zealand and Josh and Alicia for the Boston Marathon. The rest of us run a respectable 3 to 8 miles—5 being the run of choice.
Speaking of running…did you see the article in the Ravalli paper, Outside section, Feb. 8th? There was a nice write-up about “Triathlete Training” for the Griz triathlon in Missoula April 12th. If you missed it, here is the online link…minus a few other interesting pictures…and we really don’t swim four miles in the Masters…
There was also a write up on Antara Sports in the February Clark Fork Journal and a “What’s in Store” mention and picture in Montana Living. It is nice to get the word out.
Since the last newsletter, Jeremy Oury presented an interesting talk, Jan. 28th about “No Excuses Training.” He set forth his technical approach to swimming, biking, running, yoga, weights, and “other.” Jeremy does a short, medium and long workout for each of the triathlon trio every week…and allows for substitutes of other types of workouts. His notes are posted on the board if you would like to check them out.
Jody Glenn spoke on Feb. 9th about training with Free Weights to sculpt your body. She talked about burning body fat by drinking protein shakes before a workout instead of eating carbs. She also stressed the good complex carbs for energy that have a lower glycemic index (don’t readily turn to sugar to add to body fat), which are: red potatoes, yams, brown rice, and oatmeal. So carbs for energy or eat more protein if you need to burn body fat first.
Antara Sports also hosted a Chamber of Commerce “After Hours” on Feb. 7th. It brought in a few more new faces.
A Few Other Tidbits…
A few Pearl Izumi running shoes will be hitting my shelves soon. They are really nice looking shoes…a few flats and a few performance shoes…for both men & women. Looking into some other lines also. ALO bamboo tops, Avia, and Pearl Izumi bike clothes will be coming. Barracuda goggles will also be in and water aerobics swimsuits are already here. Bras and undies are 30 – 40% off to clear out some pinks, whites, beiges and light blues. Larger sizes are in and more shipped today.
Races…
Races are being posted on the board. The Snow Joke is the 23rd of February. The Griz Triathlon is April 12th and they always need volunteers to count laps or provide other services. This is a great way to get psyched up to do a triathlon. Call or come in for details to volunteer. The race registration is full. There is a great energy at these events that is very catchy…much like a marathon too. The Riverbank Run is also a fun Missoula event April 26th. There is a 10k, 5k, and 1 miler. You can run or walk one event or all three—the Trifecta. You get a better t-shirt if you do the Trifecta!
Keep your enthusiasm in your workouts by livening up your winter workout wear with new duds!
New winter hours…10:00 to 6:00, Monday through Saturday.

Saw Blue Man Group in Missoula…great show!
