Howard_LieslCanoeProfessionally, I am an attorney practicing in the area of civil law (I don't do criminal law) and handle civil litigation, family law matters, contracts, real estate transactions, employment law, and estate planning. I also offer mediation and business consultation services. Personally, I have lived in the Bitterroot valley most of my life. I graduated from Darby High School in 1977. My wife, Liesl, was born and raised in Hamilton. We have 5 children. I enjoy running and cycling--you can usually find me on the Tuesday night rides--and have completed a few marathons and one sprint triathlon.

Been in the valley for over ten years!! I have been swimming all my life and continue to do it for fun! I got into triathlons (as a team, the swimming part of course) from a push from a teammate. (Thanks Nansu) And now I have had my same team for over 4 years! I even started road bike riding this year, and achieved my goal of riding out to Lake Como and back this past summer. Open water swims are a new love of mine. I have an end goal of someday doing a 10K swim…in warm water. Check out my web site if you need a website or need a website face lift!

I have had my business for 10 years in the Bitterroot Valley. I don’t run marathons, but I can help your skin get back into shape after running one of them!  I do Yoga at Simple Yoga.  My field of expertise is skin care, micro-dermabrasion, photo-light rejuvenation, waxing and colorescience mineral makeup.

MeganMasterPoseI come from an athletic family and have always loved being active. I started out racing bikes, running and swimming at 10-years old and continued for at least another 15. I have since shifted my competitive athletic tendencies to more singular adventures in the mountains. I love to climb (rock, ice and alipine), trail run, snowboard, mountain bike and x-country ski. And after a stint in Hawaii, I MeganClimbingRockam now land locked with a surfing problem. I began yoga 8 years ago to heal my body that was starting to give from all of the pushing I had done athletically - bad knees, a bum shoulder, stiff hips which were pulling on my spine and the list goes on. Since starting yoga, I am not only able to continue the activities that I am passionate about, but I am able to do them better and without injury. Because of what yoga has brought to my life, I love to share what I know and have learned with other athletes so that we can stay active, strong, healthy, balanced and focused until we're at least 100 years old.

See you in the studio or out in the mountains...

We are the Bitterroot's Book Source, since 1974. We have new books to suit every taste, and used paperbacks for sale or trade. Chapter One Book Store opened in 1974, and moved to Main Street in 1986. We're owned by Russ Lawrence, Jean Matthews, and Shawn Wathen. I can't say that any of the owners have particularly distinguished ourselves as athletes, but Russ has done Ch1BookTeamBikesome mountaineering, most notably Mount Rainier (14,410), Cotopaxi in Ecuador (19,300), Mera Peak in Nepal (21,340) and Kilimanjaro, 19,340, on which climb Jean joined him and summited also. The Chapter One team aren't triathletes or marathoners, but we're all bike commuters with one or more centuries under our belts. Most days when the weather is good, you'll see four or more bikes nestled into our rack, and no car in the not-so-prized parking spot behind the store!

Ah, triathlons! Yes, well, once upon a time I knew a girl who did one and I remember thinking, “How can anyone possibly do that?”  I was so impressed with her. This sort of thing was so far out of my realm. Years later, here in Montana, a friend tells me she is volunteering for the Bitterroot Classic Triathlon. “Oh, that’s nice,” I think to myself. But then, I started to think….really think, maybe I could do it! So, with the support of other friends who were doing it as well, we biked, swam, ran, swam, ran and biked through the summer. Now, I think I am addicted! I’ve now completed three triathlons and a half marathon. In my other life I am a coffee roaster. (Thanks Weeses!) I’m not addicted; I just really, really, really like it! I am a micro-roaster, which means I roast in small, very small, batches. I roast to order so the coffee is the freshest you can get. I really love coffee and am grateful to be able to do what I love to do!
